Let Bygone Be Bygone

This is a phrase that people usually make use of when they are trying to forget the past.in Igbo language, we say, “Rapu ihe beru n’anyasi ka O bulu anwunta.” And you can as well say, “Let the sleeping dog lie.”

They do not all mean the same thing but they can be used to express one hope and that is the fact that you can move on.

1.       If you had always wanted to be a doctor when you were small and you find yourself being a Carpenter now; let bygone be bygone.

2.       If you had always wanted to be a husband to the most beautiful woman in Africa but you find yourself with the person that you are with now; let bygone be bygone.

3.       If you had always wanted to be a billionaire at the age of 16 and at the age of 36, you still find yourself struggling, let bygone be bygone.

Moving on in life is an opportunity to re-strategize and conquer that which you were not able to conquer before. It is not an expression of fear. No. it is an act of recoiling in order to pull the trigger and get far.

After all, it is said that he who runs today, lives to fight another day and our people say, “Nkwucha abughi ujo (carefulness is not fear.)” You might not understand all these now but in time to come, you will.

Soar high and forget the past if it is not pleasant.
